In the Liga Profesional Femenina de Fútbol de Colombia (Spanish for professional league of women's football of Colombia ), the national championship of women's football clubs of Colombia has been held since 2017 . It is organized by the DIMAYOR club association .
Winning the Colombian championship title played in the league is linked to qualification for the continental competition for the Copa Libertadores Femenina . Since the first championship season in 2017, the league has been operating under the official sponsor name Liga Águila Femenina .
history
Before 2017 there was no nationally organized women's football in Colombia, only various competitions were held at regional level. In order to determine a national representative for the Copa Libertadores Femenina, which has been held by CONMEBOL since 2009, the cup competitions for the Copa Pre-Libertadores de Colombia were held from 2010 to 2015, which thus represented a kind of quasi-championship and all of CD Formas Íntimas from Medellín could be won.
For the application for the women's soccer World Cup in 2023 , FIFA has made the introduction of a professionally organized championship competition for women's teams a condition of the Colombian association FCF . Under the leadership of DIMAYOR, the organization of a nationwide league format began in 2016, which was held for the first time in the first half of 2017.
The first goal in the championship history was scored by the Colombian Marcy Cogollos on February 17, 2017 for Cortuluá against Deportivo Pasto .
