The Estadio Ciro López is a football stadium in the Colombian city of Popayán . It has space for 5000 spectators and serves as the home stadium for the Colombian second division team Universitario Popayán .
history
Location of the stadium in Cauca |
The Estadio Ciro López was the home of the short-lived Colombian second division club Dimerco Real Popayán Fútbol Club (2003-2005), Atlético Popayán (1999) and Deportivo Independiente Popayán (1995-1997). For the back series in 2011 Centauros moved from Villavicencio to Popayán and the Estadio Ciro López and was renamed Universitario Popayán in 2012 .
The stadium hit the news in 2016 because the owner, the Liga Caucana de Fútbol , a regional football association, failed to pay various bills to the municipal utilities of Popayán, as a result of which the water was turned off and a court ordered a foreclosure sale. Due to the lack of water supply, the condition of the stadium was criticized in 2017. The municipality of Popayán announced in February 2017 that it would find a solution to the stadium problem with the Liga Caucana de Fútbol in order to support sport in the city.
