Ernesto Antonio Farías (born May 29, 1980 in Trenque Lauquen , Buenos Aires Province ) is an Argentine football player .

Club career

The striker began his professional career in 1998 at the Argentine club Estudiantes de La Plata , from whose youth team he also came. Despite well-known competition such as Luciano Galletti or Bernardo Romeo , the young Ernesto Farías was able to prevail from the start and maintained a place as a regular player. At this time, Estudiantes always played in the secured midfield of the Argentine Primera División. But Farías and his former storm colleague Mariano Pavone managed to draw attention again and again with numerous goals. In the Apertura of the 2003/04 season, the striker was the top scorer with 12 goals. In the team at that time u. a. also the future Bayern player José Ernesto Sosa . In 2004 he moved to US Palermo in Italy, which had previously been promoted to the Italian first division. Palermo would have one of the most successful years in the club's history, but Ernesto Farías could not add much to this success. In the shadow of Luca Toni , the Argentine only made 13 short appearances in which he could not score.

As a result, Farías returned to his home country Argentina in January 2005 . At CA River Plate he was supposed to replace Fernando Cavenaghi, who had migrated to Moscow, as a goal scorer - and he succeeded. Ernesto Farías proved to be an equal substitute and scored goals again as he did when he was at Estudiantes. In the Clausura of the 2005/06 season he narrowly missed the renewed title for top scorer. Only Gonzalo Vargas was able to score one more goal than Farías. Due to the good performance in his home country, European clubs again became aware of the striker. In July 2007, the Argentine signed a four-year contract with the Portuguese club FC Porto , which had bought him for four million euros. After a bit of a tough start, Farías came more often in the second half of the 2007/08 season and played alongside Lisandro López . In his first season he was champion with his new team. With Hulk , FC Porto signed another striker, but Farías achieved a good rate with 10 goals in 20 games in the 2008/09 season. In the end, Porto defended its championship title and also won the national cup and the super cup. In his last season with the Portuguese, the striker won the two national trophies again with his team. In the attack, however, his colleague Falcao was most effective and, with 25 league goals in 28 games alone, outshone all other FC Porto strikers.

In July 2010, Ernesto Farías moved to Brazil to join Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte . This was followed by a loan station in Argentina at CA Independiente .

At Apertura 2014 he moved to the reigning Uruguayan champions Danubio FC . In the 2014/15 season, he was used in seven first division games (one goal) and one game (one goal) of the Copa Sudamericana 2014 .

At the beginning of February 2015, Farías moved to the second Colombian league for the traditional club América de Cali .

National team

Farías took part in 1997 with the Argentine U-17 selection at the U-17 World Cup in Egypt. Two years later he was part of the winning squad at the U-20 South American Championship and was also used at the subsequent Junior World Cup in 1999 . In the Argentine senior national team , he has only played once in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. In this operation his team lost against Paraguay with 0: 1.
