Primeira Liga 2007/08

The 2008/09 Primeira Liga (officially Liga Sagres) was the 75th season of the Portuguese top division in men's football. It began on August 22, 2008 with a home game of third place in the previous season Vitória Guimarães against Vitória Setúbal (1: 1) and ended on May 24, 2009 with the 30th and final game day. Rio Ave FC and CD Trofense were new .

The Portuguese champions were FC Porto for the fourth time in a row . It was the 24th championship title for Porto. CD Trofense and CF Estrela Amadora had to relegate . Estrela Amadora was banned from participating in professional football due to financial problems and had to be relegated to the II Divisão (the third highest division). Belenenses Lisbon was therefore able to keep the class, despite sporting relegation.

Attendees

Due to the Apito Final manipulation scandal in which Boavista Porto was involved, Boavista had to accept a forced relegation. This meant that FC Paços de Ferreira was allowed to remain in the first Portuguese football league despite being relegated. The 16 teams played against each other twice on a total of 30 match days, divided into a first and a second round.
