Champion was defending champion FC Pyunik Yerevan , who won for the 9th time in a row. It was the 12th championship title of FC Pyunik Yerevan . They qualified for the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League . While the runner-up MIKA Ashtarak was able to compete in the 2nd qualifying round of the Europa League , the third and fourth placed had to play in the 1st qualifying round of the Europa League . The bottom of the table FC Ararat Yerevan relegated to the Aradżin chumb , the second Armenian league.

In the cup final of the Armenian Independence Cup , which took place on May 9, 2009 at 8:00 pm in the Hanrapetakan Stadium in Yerevan , the champions of FC Pyunik Yerevan defeated the team of FC Banants Yerevan 1-0. Henrich Mchitarjan scored the goal in the 90th minute .
