Fernando Francisco Reges (born July 25, 1987 in Alto Paraíso de Goiás , Brazil ), called Fernando , is a Brazilian - Portuguese football player . The defensive midfielder has played for Sevilla FC in the Primera División since July 2019 .

Fernando began his professional career in 2005 at the then third-rate club Vila Nova FC . In 2007 he signed a five-year contract with the Portuguese first division club FC Porto . In the first year he was loaned to CF Estrela Amadora , where he quickly fought for a regular place. In the 2008/09 season he was included in the active squad of FC Porto, where he established himself alongside players like Raúl Meireles or Luis González .
For the 2014/15 season he moved to the English Premier League for Manchester City .
On August 4, 2017, Galatasaray Istanbul announced the midfielder's signing. The transfer fee stated was € 5.25 million (including bonuses of max. € 900,000). The Brazilian signed for three years and receives a base salary of € 3.3 million per season. For the 2019/20 season, Reges moved to Spain to FC Sevilla . Sevilla paid a transfer fee of 4.5 million euros for the midfielder.
National team
Fernando was accepted into the Brazilian team for the South American U-20 championship in 2007 . Despite winning the continental tournament, he was not considered for the subsequent U-20 World Cup. After receiving Portuguese citizenship in December 2013, FIFA refused Fernando permission to play for the Portuguese Association. To change associations, Fernando would have had to have a theoretical right to Portuguese citizenship during his U-20 competitive matches for Brazil.
