Mariano Nicolás González (born May 5, 1981 in Tandil ) is an Argentine football player .

The attacking midfielder began his career at Racing Club Avellaneda . Here he played in the 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons in the regular formation before moving to Italy for the US Palermo for the 2004/05 season. In Palermo he was already used regularly in his first season, but he made it into the starting eleven in his second season. After two seasons in Palermo, González played the 2006/07 season on loan at Inter Milan , with whom he won the Italian championship. For the 2007/08 season González was awarded to Portuguese champions FC Porto , who then signed him permanently. With FC Porto he won the Portuguese Championship and the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League in the 2007/08 , 2008/09 and 2010/11 seasons .

In the summer of 2011 González returned to Argentina, where he was hired by Estudiantes de La Plata . In 2013 he was loaned to Arsenal de Sarandí for half a year , where he and his team won the Copa Argentina . In early 2014 he moved to his hometown to Santamarina Tandil , who played in the Primera B Nacional . After two years, he joined Club Atlético Huracán in early 2016 .

National team

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens González won the gold medal in the Olympic football tournament with the selection of Argentina. At the Copa América 2004 he finished 2nd with Argentina.
