Rolando Jorge Pires da Fonseca , called Rolando (born August 31, 1985 in São Vicente ) is a Cape Verdean - Portuguese football player . He is under contract with the French first division club Olympique Marseille .

Career

Rolando started his career in the youth department of Portuguese club SC Campomaiorense before moving to Belenenses Lisbon , where he made his Primeira Liga debut in 2004 .

In 2008 he switched to the Portuguese top team FC Porto , with whom Rolando won numerous national titles. However, his greatest success during his time at Porto was winning the UEFA Europa League in 2011 . In the final against Sporting Braga , the central defender was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

For the second half of the 2012/13 season Rolando was loaned to the Italian Serie A at SSC Napoli . A loan to Inter Milan followed in August 2013 . In February 2015 he was loaned to the Belgian RSC Anderlecht until the end of the season.

In the summer of 2015, Rolando signed a three-year contract with Olympique Marseille until June 2018.

National team

Born on the Cape Verde Islands , Rolando was granted Portuguese citizenship upon application. Since then he has played in both the U21 and the national team for Portugal.

With Portugal's U21s, he took part in the 2007 U21 European Championship in the Netherlands . For the 2010 World Cup in South Africa he was appointed to the squad by Carlos Queiroz , but was not used during the tournament.
