Luis Óscar González (born January 19, 1981 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ), called Lucho , is an Argentine football player . Lucho is an attacking midfielder who can, however, be used in many positions. González is known for his fighting strength, good physical condition and dangerous long-range shots.
Career
In the club
He began his football career at the Argentine club Club Atlético Huracán , for which he made his debut in the first division in April 1999. In 2002 he moved to the Argentine top club River Plate , where he quickly became a fixture and recommended himself for European clubs. In 2005 he moved to the Portuguese top club FC Porto , with whom he won the Portuguese championship and the cup in his first season. In the following seasons 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09 FC Porto won the Portuguese championship with González. For the 2009/10 season Lucho moved to Olympique Marseille for 18 million euros. In January 2012 he moved back to FC Porto from Marseille on a free transfer . In his first game after returning to the Portuguese League Cup , he scored a goal and contributed to his team's 2-0 victory over Vitória Setúbal . At the end of January 2014, he moved to the Al-Rayyan Sports Club in Qatar to finish his career . The transfer fee was around 3.3 million euros.
In the national team
He played his first international match for the Argentine national soccer team in January 2003. Since then, he has played 41 internationals and scored 5 goals. He was one of the big stars of the Argentine team at the 2004 Copa America and played a key role in the final against Brazil . In the same year he won the gold medal with the selection of Argentina at the 2004 Olympic Games . He took part in the 2006 World Cup and was used in 3 games. He was also in the Argentine squad for the 2007 Copa America in Venezuela.
