Robson Bambu , real name Robson Alves de Barros (born November 12, 1997 in São Vicente ), is a Brazilian soccer player who has been under contract with the French first division club OGC Nice since July 2020 . The central defender has been in action for the Brazilian U23 national team since January 2020 .

Career

Robson Bambu, born in São Vicente , comes from the youth department of FC Santos , which he joined when he was ten. On August 4, 2016, he signed a professional contract that ran until November 2018. In January 2018, he was promoted to the first team by head coach Jair Ventura . On January 28, he made his professional debut in a 1-1 draw against Ituano FC in the Campeonato Paulista . In the Paulistão he was used in three games and in the league championship 2018 he played nine games, in which he appeared mainly as a substitute for the injured Gustavo Henrique and Lucas Veríssimo .

On November 21, 2018, the transfer of Bamboo to league competitor Athletico Paranaense was announced, where he signed a four-year contract. He made his debut in the 0-1 home defeat against the lower class club Cascavel CR in the Campeonato Paranaense . Despite this defeat, he ultimately won the state championship with his new team and was considered a regular player in this competition. In the 2019 league championship , however, he was only used sporadically and ended it with only eight appearances.

On June 5, 2020, the transfer of Robson Bamboo to the French club OGC Nice was announced, which took place on July 1, 2020. The first division secured the services of the central defender for a transfer fee of eight million euros and provided him with a five-year contract.

National team

In August 2016 Bambu was nominated for the Brazilian U20 national team for the first time . On September 4, 2016 Robson Bambu made his debut in a 2-1 win in a friendly international match against England for the, when he came on in the 68th minute for Maycon . With this selection he took part in the U20 South American Championship in Ecuador in 2017 , where he was used in two games.

In January 2020, he played three games for the Brazilian U23 national team at the qualifying tournament for the 2020 Olympic Games and secured participation in the final round with his selection.
