Sarr grew up in the southern French port city of Nice as the son of Senegalese parents. At the age of six he moved to the local club OGC Nice , where he went through various youth selections for the first division team over the next 12 years .
Professional at OGC Nice
For the 2016/17 season he was promoted to the first team at the age of 17 and was already in the starting line-up in the league game against Stade Rennes on August 14, 2016 (1st matchday) . In the 60th minute of the game, the central defender scored the goal of the day when he put the ball in the net after a free kick by Jean Michaël Seris . With this goal he became the second youngest player to score in his Ligue 1 debut game, behind Nigerian Bartholomew Ogbeche . After the game, he dedicated the goal to the victims of the Nice attack a month earlier. Despite his age, Sarr was already an integral part of the starting line-up of coach Lucien Favre in the following games . In November 2016, Malang Sarr signed his first professional contract with the Aiglons . Only in February 2019, after a weaker phase, was he pushed out of the line-up by the experienced Paul Baysse and was only used sporadically in the remaining season. Nevertheless, with 27 league appearances, he made a significant contribution to Nice's excellent 3rd place in the table.
In the following 2017/18 season , team-mate Maxime Le Marchand received more playing time at the start of the season, which meant that Sarr was often on the bench or not listed in the matchday squad at all. Between early December 2017 and late February 2018 made Sarr then with veteran Dante Bonfim the Innenverteidigerduo he beor end of the season of lent Marlon Santos was replaced. This season he was used in 21 league games and positioned himself with Nice on the 8th place in the table.
The new coach Patrick Vieira then trusted Malang Sarr again and put him back in the starting line-up after a bumpy start to the 2018/19 season . He was not ousted from this for the entire season. On May 11, 2019 (36th matchday), he scored his second goal for Nice in his professional career in a 1-1 draw against FC Nantes . In the 3-0 away defeat against AS Saint-Étienne on the next match day, he wore the captain's loop for the first time, in the absence of the regular captain Dante. Another game later, on the last matchday of the 2018/19 season, Sarr played his 100th competitive game for OGC Nice in a 2-0 home win. This season he came to 35 league appearances.
Chelsea FC
For the 2020/21 season, Sarr moved to the Premier League for Chelsea . He signed a contract until June 30, 2025 and will be loaned for a year.
