Jeffrey Thomas Farkas (* 24. January 1978 in Williamsville , New York ) is a retired American ice hockey player , who during his playing career between 2000 and 2003 among other 16 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League on contested the position of the center .

Career

Farkas spent a very successful time at Boston College between 1996 and 2000 , with whose ice hockey team he was active in Hockey East , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In addition to two championships in 1998 and 1999, the center forward was appointed to numerous selection teams. In the 1997 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the third round in 57th place by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the National Hockey League .

After finishing his career at college Farkas moved to the end of the 1999/2000 season in the professional area, where he made his debut for the Leafs during the play-offs . For the next two seasons, the attacker was mainly part of the farm team , the St. John's Maple Leafs from the American Hockey League . In the NHL, he was only used sporadically in the event of staff shortages. In the summer of 2002, Farkas moved to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Josh Holden . For the Canadian west coast franchise , he only played for the AHL farm team Manitoba Moose before being given to the Atlanta Thrashers in January 2003 . In return, Chris Herperger and Chris Nielsen moved to Vancouver.

The striker played three games for the Thrashers and otherwise worked for their farm team, the Chicago Wolves . During a mission for the Wolves towards the end of the season, Farkas fell head first into the gang and broke his fifth cervical vertebra and barely escaped a quadriplegia . The injury finally forced him to retire on July 28, 2003 at the age of 25.

International

Farkas represented his home country a total of three times at the Junior World Championships between 1996 and 1998. In addition to winning the silver medal at the Junior World Championship in 1997 , there were two fifth places in 1996 and 1998. In 1998 Farkas finished the tournament with ten points as top scorer.
