Marco van Ginkel (born December 1, 1992 in Amersfoort , Netherlands ) is a Dutch football player who is under contract with Chelsea .

Career

Marco van Ginkel played in the youth of De Valleivogels in Scherpenzeel and joined Vitesse Arnheim at the age of seven . Here he went through all other youth teams, from 2005 in the training of the joint Vitesse football academy with AGOVV Apeldoorn . Still as an A-youth, he made his debut in the Eredivisie on April 9, 2010 at the age of 17, when he came on as a substitute for Nicky Hofs in the 67th minute at RKC Waalwijk when the score was 1-1 . The game ended 4-1 for Waalwijk. He was used in three other games of the 2009/10 season .

Before the 2010/11 season , van Ginkel was diagnosed with Pfeiffer glandular fever , which briefly set him back. But on the second match day he was in Vitesse's starting line-up and scored his first goal in the Eredivisie in the 43rd minute to equalize 2-2 in the 4-2 defeat in Amsterdam against AFC Ajax . After the winter break, he scored a "double" on matchday 21 in a 5-2 win over Roda JC Kerkrade ; subsequently he was a regular member of the Vitesse family.

Van Ginkel's contract with Vitesse Arnhem should run until June 2015, but he moved to Chelsea in the Premier League in 2013 . There he received a contract until June 2018. After two short appearances in the 2013/14 season and appearing in the starting line-up in the Champions League game against FC Basel, he suffered on September 24, 2013 in the League Cup game at Swindon Town suffered a cruciate ligament rupture that incapacitated him for months and cost him his participation in the 2014 World Cup .

On September 1, 2014, van Ginkel moved to the Italian Serie A at AC Milan until the end of the 2014/15 season .

For the 2015/16 season , van Ginkel was loaned to Stoke City . After Stoke Giannelli signed Imbula , the loan was ended early on February 1, 2016. He then moved to PSV Eindhoven on loan . His eight goals helped defend the league title.

For the season 2016/17 van Ginkel returned to Chelsea, was coached by Antonio Conte but not included in the first team squad. He played in the U23 three times in the first half of the season and scored one goal. On January 1, 2017, he extended his contract to June 30, 2019 and returned to PSV Eindhoven on loan. By the end of the 2016/17 season he made 15 appearances in which he scored seven goals. In July 2017 he extended his contract with Chelsea until June 30, 2020 and the loan from PSV Eindhoven for the 2017/18 season . He contributed 14 goals in 28 league appearances to win the championship.

For the 2018/19 season , van Ginkel returned to Chelsea, who from then on was coached by Maurizio Sarri . Due to a knee injury, he was unable to play the entire season. In September 2019, the new head coach Frank Lampard , with whom van Ginkel had played at Chelsea, announced that there had been complications from a knee operation.

National team

In August 2011 he was appointed to the squad of the U-21 national team for the first time . Bond coach Louis van Gaal called him for the international match against the German national team on November 14, 2012 for the first time in the squad of the A-team and preferred him to the more experienced Siem de Jong in his position in midfield . Van Ginkel came on for Ibrahim Afellay in the 59th minute, making him the 727th player in the Oranje jersey after Kenneth Vermeer , who also made his debut in this match and who was in goal for the Dutch from the start.
