Siem de Jong (born January 28, 1989 in Aigle , Switzerland ) is a Dutch football player .
Life
De Jong was born on January 28, 1989 as the son of the Dutch volleyball players George de Jong and Loekie Raterink in Aigle in southwest Switzerland . Together with his younger brother Luuk , who is also a professional footballer, the family moved to Achterhoek in the Netherlands in 1995 . He attended the Rietveld Lyceum , which was also attended by Guus Hiddink , Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Paul Bosvelt .
Career

De Jong played in the youth of the Doetinchemer club DZC '68 until 2001 , before he was discovered by VBV De Graafschap Doetinchem at the age of 12 . After four years with De Graafschap, Ajax lured him into his youth boarding school. Within a year he finally made the leap into the professional squad and was part of the club's first division team from the 2007/08 season. De Jong made his debut for the Amsterdam team on October 26, 2007. In the game against Kozakken Boys , he came on in the 80th minute for Jan Vertonghen . He played his first Eredivisie game against Sparta Rotterdam . With a goal in stoppage time, he secured his team a 2-2 draw. After his first year as a professional, he made over 20 league appearances and was the only player under the age of 20 to break this mark for this season.
For the 2014/15 season , de Jong moved from Ajax to Newcastle United . After two years in England, during which he could not assert himself, he returned to the Netherlands in August 2016, this time to PSV Eindhoven .
In the 2017-2018 season he was back at Ajax, this time scoring four goals in 21 Eeredivisie games, only one over 90 minutes. In his last game for ajax, he received a red card on matchday 31 with a 3-0 defeat in Eindhoven shortly before the end.
For the A-League season 2018/19, the now 29-year-old was loaned from Ajax to the multiple Australian champions Sydney FC , where he takes on the role of marquee player .
National team
De Jong was a national player for the U19, U20 and U21 of the Netherlands.
After the 2010 World Cup , bond coach Bert van Marwijk de Jong called for the match in Donetsk on August 11, 2010 against Ukraine for the first time in the senior national team. Since the game was close to the World Cup final, van Marwijk had decided not to use the players who played at the World Cup. De Jong started the 1-1 draw from Oranje and was substituted on after 63 minutes by another debutant, Leroy Fer .
