Career
society
Leroy Fer's parents come from the Netherlands Antilles , one grandfather was Surinamer . In his hometown of Zoetermeer, Fer started playing soccer at the local club DWO . In the E1 youth he moved to Feyenoord, where he finished his school education in addition to football. Even as a junior, he moved to the Rotterdam team's second team. The strong player - at 1.88 meters tall, he weighed 85 kilograms at the age of 20 - is considered dynamic and powerful.
Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk brought the 17-year-old into the top team at the end of 2007 when his team was decimated due to several injuries. On December 2, 2007, Leroy Fer made his debut in the Eredivisie. In the home game against Heracles Almelo , van Marwijk switched him on for Nuri Şahin five minutes before the end of the game , when the final score of 6-0 was already established. Fer came into play for Şahin in the 0-0 win in Venlo the following week and this time was allowed to participate for more than half an hour. On February 3, 2008 he was in Amsterdam against the AFC Ajax for the first time in the starting lineup. In total, he came in the 2007/08 season on 13 league appearances as a right defender and in midfield ; while he scored his first league goal on March 30, 2008 in the away game at NAC Breda . Despite his opening goal, Feyenoord lost 3-1. In the 2008 cup final, Rotterdam defeated Roda Kerkrade 2-0 in their own stadium ; Fer came back for Şahin 18 minutes before the end.
In the 2008/09 season , Fer became a regular player and scored six goals in 32 league games. Mostly he played offensively to the right of Jon Dahl Tomasson or centrally as his substitute. During this season he also got his first international experience in the club. In the UEFA Cup he was in the first round of both games against Kalmar FF in the Rotterdam team. The 0-1 defeat in de Kuip was followed by a 2-1 away win. Fer scored the decisive goal with a header in the 51st minute. Under the new coach Mario Been Fer moved in the 2009/10 season to the defensive left midfield to the position that Giovanni van Bronckhorst had occupied in the previous season, who moved back to the position of left defender. In 31 honorary division games - one less than the two central defenders André Bahia and Ron Vlaar and as many as his peer Georginio Wijnaldum - he scored two goals this season.
In the 2010/11 season, Fer represented team captain Ron Vlaar . In total, he completed 103 league games for Feyenoord by August 2011, in which he scored 14 goals. At the end of the summer fair period, Fer moved to league rivals FC Twente in Enschede , where he signed a three-year contract.
On July 13, 2013 it was announced that Leroy would be under contract with Norwich City from the 2013/2014 season. After a season at Norwich, he moved to league competitor QPR in August 2014 and signed a three-year contract. The Londoners spent 10 million on the services of the winger who will wear the number 10 in the future.
National team
With the Dutch U-17 selection Leroy Fer 2007 took part in the U-17 European Football Championship 2007 in Belgium. In the same year he played in the U-19 national team. In the spring of 2009 Johan Neeskens called him to the short-lived B national team and used him as a substitute in the 0-0 win against Italy's U-21 team.
After the 2010 World Cup , bond coach Bert van Marwijk Fer called for the match in Donetsk on August 11, 2010 against Ukraine for the first time in the senior national team. Since the game was close to the World Cup final, van Marwijk had decided not to use the players who played at the World Cup. He made his Oranje debut in the 63rd minute when he came on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw for Siem de Jong .
