Steven Berghuis (born December 19, 1991 in Apeldoorn ) is a Dutch football player . He plays for Feyenoord Rotterdam .
Club career
Steven is the son of former soccer player Frank Berghuis ; his younger brother Tristan is also a footballer.
As a child, Berghuis began playing football with the amateur clubs AGOVV and WSV in his native Apeldoorn . As a 15-year-old he played in the first team of WSV in the Hoofd class . A little later he moved to the youth department of the Go Ahead Eagles in Deventer . After their merger with the youth of FC Twente , he made his first division debut on January 19, 2011 for the club from Enschede , with whom he won the Johan Cruijff Schaal in 2011 . The next season Berghuis played with Twente in the group stage of the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League . In the winter transfer period of the 2011/12 season he was awarded to VVV-Venlo . For the Venloer he came to 17 appearances and two goals; at the end of the season there was relegation.
In 2012 Berghuis signed a five-year contract with the honorary division partner AZ from Alkmaar and won the KNVB Cup 2012/13 . With the club he played in the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League and was eliminated in the quarter-finals; in the 2013/14 cup competition they reached the semi-finals. In total, he completed 74 league games (20 goals) for AZ. For the 2015/16 season , Watford FC signed him for four years. The left-footer, who primarily plays as a right-winger, only made nine short appearances in the Premier League in his first season , none of which was in his regular position.
For the 2016/17 season , Berghuis was loaned to Feyenoord Rotterdam and committed in July 2017. He became Dutch champions with Feyenoord in his first season, won the Supercup in 2017 and 2018 and the Dutch Cup in 2018 . In his first two seasons he was a regular player and scored a total of 25 goals in the league, 18 of them in the 2017/18 season .
National team
Berghuis played for the U-19 and U-21 teams of the Netherlands; in both teams he scored a goal on his debuts. For the U-21s he was successful in the friendly games against Israel and Albania .
He has been part of the senior national team since 2015 . On May 27, 2016 he made his debut under bond coach Danny Blind during the friendly against Ireland in Dublin, when he came on for Memphis Depay in the 61st minute . In the following two international matches he was in the starting line-up for the Dutch.
