Dick van Dijk (born February 15, 1946 in Gouda , Netherlands , † July 8, 1997 in Nice , France ) was a Dutch football player .
Career
society
Dick van Dijk began his career in 1963 with Schiedamse Voetbal Vereniging (today: FC Dordrecht ) in the Tweede Divisie . After the 1965/66 season, the club rose to the Eerste Divisie . After consistently performing well, van Dijk got the attention of Eredivisie clubs. In the summer of 1967 he was finally signed by FC Twente Enschede . Twente already tried to free the striker from SVV last year, but negotiations failed because of the high transfer fee at the time. In Enschede van Dijk immediately prevailed and scored seven goals in the first five games. Together with Theo Pahlplatz he formed the then FC Sturm. With a total of 22 hits, the attacker led his new team to eighth place in the Eredivisie. The following year these performances were even exceeded and van Dijk was top scorer in the Dutch league with 30 goals together with Ove Kindvall . His three-pack on November 3, 1968, when they beat Ajax Amsterdam 5-1, was particularly remarkable . For the 1969/70 season he finally signed Ajax, where he played for three years. Still celebrated as the star of the team in Enschede, he was just one of the stars in Amsterdam and he had to change his game and fight for the regular place. In his first season, van Dijk scored 23 goals in 32 games. The attacker scored one of his most important goals for Ajax on June 1, 1971 in the final of the European Cup , when he was able to score the 1-0 opening goal against Panathinaikos Athens after just five minutes . The match was won 2-0. It was Ajax's first success in this competition. In addition, he was able to win the national championship in 1970 and the KNVB Cup in the same year and the following year . Since he was mostly a change player in the 1970/71 season, van Dijk decided to move abroad in the summer of 1971 and signed with the French club OGC Nice . There, too, he regularly scored goals. After two years he was drawn to Spain for Real Murcia for his final season as a professional footballer .
