Dušan Tadić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Душан Тадић ; born November 20, 1988 in Bačka Topola , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian football player . He is under contract with the Dutch first division club Ajax Amsterdam and plays for the Serbian national team .

His preferred position is the left midfield , but he can play on the right side or be used as a winger or hanging tip. Tadić is best known for his extravagant dribbles and submission quota. In the 2011/12 season he was the third best assists in Europe . He is considered a fast, dangerous and creative player.

Vojvodina Novi Sad

Dušan Tadić went through the youth teams of Vojvodina Novi Sad , which is one of the most renowned in Southeast Europe , and began his professional career there at the age of 18. From the 2006/07 season he was part of the professional squad. In 2007 he finished third with the club, reaching the Serbian Cup final and qualifying for the UEFA Cup .

Over time, despite his young age, he became a permanent fixture in the team. In 2008 he repeated third place and qualification for the UEFA Cup with Vojvodina. During the 2007/08 UEFA Cup, he gained valuable international experience in games such as against Atlético Madrid . In 2009 he became Serbian runner-up and again reached the cup final in 2010. In 2010 he was elected to the top 11 of the Serbian first division.

In qualifying for the Europa League 2009/10 he scored a goal against the Austrian representative FK Austria Wien . In almost four full years at Vojvodina, he scored 29 goals in 107 league games and was best known for his high rate of assists . He passed this time without major injuries or incidents.

Four years in the Netherlands

From the 2010/11 season he played for FC Groningen , where he signed a three-year contract and received the shirt with the number 10. He turned down offers from Russia, Germany, Italy and Spain to move to Groningen. At FC Groningen he formed a duo with Sweden's Fredrik Stenman in his first season and gave the most assists in the Eredivisie with 17 assists. With seven goals of his own, he also helped qualify for the play-offs for qualifying for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League , in which the Groningen team were eliminated in the second round by ADO Den Haag . In the following season, Dušan Tadić was also a regular after the departures of Stenman and Tim Matavz and, as in the previous season, he played in all 34 league games, in which he also scored seven goals and prepared another ten goals. He was voted Player of the Season after his performance in a 6-0 win against Feyenoord Rotterdam .

For the 2012/13 season , Tadić moved to FC Twente and signed a three-year contract with an option to extend the contract for a further two years. With the club from Enschede he qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League at the beginning of the season , after he contributed two assists and goals in seven qualifying games. In the group stage, the club met Hannover 96 , Helsingborgs IF and UD Levante and were eliminated as the bottom of the group. Dušan Tadić was used in all six games and scored a goal in the 3-1 defeat in the last group game against Helsingborgs IF. In the league, he played 33 games and scored 12 goals while preparing 15 more goals. Thus, he contributed to the qualification for the play-offs for the qualification for the second qualifying round of the Europa League , in which Tadić was eliminated again in the second round like 2011, this time against FC Utrecht . In his second and final season for FC Twente, he played again in 33 games in the league, scoring 16 goals and again giving the most assists in the Eredivisie with 14 assists. Thanks to this achievement, the club qualified third in the table for the play-offs of the UEFA Europa League .

Four years in the Premier League at Southampton FC

For the 2014/15 season , Tadić joined Southampton FC and signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2018. In his first season he appeared in 31 of 34 games in the Premier League and gave eight assists, while he scored four goals himself. His 1-0 winner on January 11, 2015 in the away game against Manchester United was decisive for the first win at Old Trafford since 1988. At the end of the 2014/15 season, Southampton FC occupied seventh place in the table and were eliminated in the play-offs Europa League out. By then, Tadić had played in all four games and scored one goal. On May 1, 2016, with three assists in a 4-2 home win over Manchester City, he became the fourth player to give at least three assists in a point game. At the end of the 2015/16 season , Southampton FC finished sixth in the table thanks to eight goals and 13 assists from Tadić and qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League . This season he gave three assists in 36 league games and scored six goals himself and thus contributed to relegation with 17th place in the table.

Ajax Amsterdam

He returned to the Netherlands for the 2018/19 season and joined Ajax Amsterdam . His contract runs until 2022. With Ajax, Tadić reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League . His performance in the second leg of the second leg against Real Madrid was rated positively by the French sports magazines France Football and L'Équipe ; he was voted one of the top 20 players in the competition by UEFA . Nationally, Tadić won the double from the Dutch championship and cup. He gave in the league with 14 assists for the third time in his career the most assists in the Eredivisie and was top scorer with 28 goals.

National team

Dušan Tadić played for several Serbian junior national teams and took part in the U-19 European Football Championship in 2007 , the 2008 Summer Olympics and the U-21 European Football Championship in 2009 .

On December 14, 2008 he made his debut for the Serbian national team when he was on the starting line-up for the game against Poland . He scored his first goal for the senior team on September 11, 2012 in a 6-1 win over the Welsh national team . The game was played in Novi Sad at the Karađorđe stadium, the venue of Vojvodina Novi Sad , the club where Dušan Tadić spent his youth and started his professional career. In 2018 he took part in the World Cup with Serbia and was used in all three preliminary round matches. Serbia was eliminated after the preliminary round.
