Joël Veltman (born January 15, 1992 in IJmuiden ) is a Dutch football player who is used as a defender in central defense . He is under contract with Brighton & Hove Albion and is a Dutch international.
Career

Ajax Amsterdam
Veltman has played for Ajax Amsterdam since he was a teenager. Since the 2012/13 season he has been playing for the professional team in the Eredivisie , initially also in the second team Jong Ajax . In 2013 he became Dutch champions with Ajax. In the 2013/14 season he prevailed in the professional team, was again champion, and played his first games in a European cup competition. In the following years Ajax Amsterdam had to give way to other clubs in the fight for the championship title. Veltmann played on November 21, 2015 in a 5-1 win against SC Cambuur for the 100th time in a competitive game for the Amsterdam team. In the 2016/17 season he reached the final of the UEFA Europa League with Ajax Amsterdam , in which they lost to Manchester United .
In April 2018, he suffered a knee injury and was absent until the end of the 2018 calendar year. In the meantime he had lost his regular place to Noussair Mazraoui , but came back to more playing time during his absence towards the end of the 2018/19 season. With Ajax he reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League this season and won the double from the championship and the KNVB-Beker.

At the beginning of the 2021/21 season, Veltman moved to the English first division club Brighton & Hove Albion .
National team
On November 19, 2013, Joël Veltman made his debut in the goalless draw in the friendly against Colombia in Amsterdam for the Dutch national team .
controversy
In February 2017, Veltman was criticized internationally for behavior that was deemed unfair. After the fall of a teammate, he indicated to his opponent to interrupt the game; when the opponent looked after the injured player, however, he continued to play and stormed towards the opponent's penalty area.
