Solomon Benjamin "Solly" March (born July 20, 1994 in Eastbourne ) is an English football player who is under contract with the Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion . The winger is a former England national team player.

Career

societies

March started playing football for the London club Crystal Palace . After playing for a short time in the youth of Eastbourne Borough , he moved to Lewes FC in the Isthmian League in 2010 . In the 4-1 win against FC Aveley on September 10, 2011, the 17-year-old made his first-team debut. Shortly thereafter, he received an offer to switch to the youth team of the second division club Brighton & Hove Albion , where he finally signed a three-year contract in December 2011. March was initially only used in the youth team Brightons, in which he quickly caused a stir. These were also noticed by coach Gus Poyet and on December 18, 2012 he sat on the bench for the first time in a men's championship game. During the remainder of the 2012/13 season March was two more times on the reserve bench of the Seagulls , but without actually being substituted into the game. Due to his outstanding performance in the youth team, he was named Brightons Young Player of the Year 2013 . After the season he extended his contract until 2015.

Solly March (2014)

He made his first-team debut on matchday two of the 2013/14 season when he came on as a substitute in a 2-1 home defeat by Derby County in the closing stages. Another three short assignments followed, but he didn't get a single assignment between November and January. It wasn't until the 1-0 home win against Reading FC in the FA Cup on January 4, 2014 that he was back in the game and was even allowed to start. In the 3-1 away win at Port Vale in the next round, he scored his first competitive goal for Brighton. The good performances in the cup gave him more and more playing time in the league. At the end of the season he had played 28 games and signed a new four-year contract with the Seagulls in April 2014 . Due to fitness problems, he did not start his season for the first time in the following 2014/15 season. He scored his first league goal on December 29, 2014 against Fulham FC . This season he only came to 13 missions. In the 2015/16 season he was back from the start and scored his first goal of the season on November 17, 2015 in a 2-1 away win at Leeds United . More followed against MK Dons and Birmingham City . On December 12, 2015, he sustained a knee injury against Derby County that ended his season.

On October 4, 2016 March extended his contract with Brighton & Hove Albion until 2020. In the 2016/17 season , he returned to the team on November 5, 2016 in the game against Bristol City . He scored his first goal of the season on February 5, 2017 in a 3-3 draw against Brentford FC . In the second half he was an essential regular in midfield in the south of England. With Brighton he succeeded in this season the championship title and the consequent promotion to the first-class Premier League . At the end of the season, he had four goals and the same number of assists in 34 appearances.

In the 2017/18 season , he made his Premier League debut on August 12 in a 2-1 home loss to Manchester City . He scored his first goal of the season on September 15, 2017 in a 2-1 away defeat by AFC Bournemouth . He played 36 appearances in the top English league this season. His team was able to prevent relegation with the 14th place in the table. In the next 2018/19 season , March appeared in 35 league games, in which he scored one goal and prepared six more.

National team

In May 2014 he was nominated by coach Gareth Southgate for the first time in the squad of the English U-21 team , which played a U-21 European Championship qualifier against Wales and represented England at the Toulon tournament . He finally made his debut on May 22nd against Qatar's U-20s . On March 27, 2017, he scored his first goal for the U-21 national team in a friendly against Denmark's U-21s .
