Steven Alzate (born September 8, 1998 in Camden ) is an English - Colombian football player . The versatile midfielder came from Leyton Orient's youth work and moved to the first division club Brighton & Hove Albion in October 2017 .

Career

Leyton Orient

Alzate was born in the British capital to a Colombian couple and played at a young age for Fulham FC and from the U-13 age group for the Leyton Orient, also based in London . In the fourth division he was part of the professional squad from the 2016/17 season and after his debut on February 28, 2017 by substitution against FC Stevenage (1: 4) and the first goal in the starting eleven four days later, he completed ten more league games. At the end of July 2017, Alzate moved to the first division club Brighton & Hove Albion , where he was initially included in the U-23 squad.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Alzate was represented in numerous games in various positions in the junior team supervised by Simon Rusk and at the end of the 2017/18 season she was able to manage the promotion from the second division. In order to collect more match practice in professional league operations, Brighton loaned Alzate to the fourth division club Swindon Town for the entire 2018/19 season . There he performed well in the second half of 2018, before he threatened to be absent for at least three months due to a back stress fracture diagnosed in January 2019 and he was then ordered back to Brighton.

After his return to the "Seagulls" Alzate was promoted to the professional squad. After a first appearance in the League Cup against the Bristol Rovers (2-1) in the right midfield, the Premier League debut followed on the left in a goalless draw at Newcastle United on September 21, 2019. After the first steps on the prominent stage in English football, Alzate said in relation to possible national team appointments that he would rather play for the Colombian national team . Alzate was appointed to the Colombian national team by Colombian national coach Carlos Queiroz in October 2019 and played for the first time in friendly matches against Peru and Ecuador in November 2019.
