Edson Omar Álvarez Velázquez (born October 24, 1997 in Tlalnepantla ) is a Mexican football player on the position of defender .

career

Álvarez began his career in the junior division of CF Pachuca , from which he was retired at the age of 14 because of "too small stature". At that time, he almost wanted to hang the football boots on the much-cited nail. Two years later, at the age of 16, he tried again at the capital club, Club América, and after three months of training was able to convince those responsible to give him a chance. Paradoxically, Álvarez is now 1.87 m tall.

After having been successfully active in the youth teams of Club América for a few months, he received his first professional contract on January 1, 2017 and has so far (as of the end of the 2017/18 season) completed 40 appearances in the Mexican professional league (and scored a goal) .

Already on February 8, 2017, Álvarez made his first appearance for the Mexican national team in a test match against Iceland (1-0) and in his fourth international match on July 16, 2017, he came off in the preliminary group match of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017 against the national soccer team Curaçao (2-0) to his first international goal.

After a total of ten international appearances, which he had completed by the end of March 2018, Álvarez was appointed to the 28-man squad from which the Mexican World Cup squad for 2018 will be selected.
