Tlalnepantla is a city in the southeast of the Mexican state of México . It is located at an altitude of 2250 m , directly on the northern border of the federal district of the capital Mexico City in the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México .
The municipality of Tlalnepantla de Baz , whose main town is Tlalnepantla, includes the town of Tepeolulco Puerto Escondido with 10,717 inhabitants and numerous other smaller settlements.
Tlalnepantla is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tlalnepantla .
history
Tlalnepantla was created after the Spanish conquest through the merger of the Chichimeken tribes and the Otomí tribes. Tlalnepantla received its town charter in 1848. The town name was repeatedly given additions: in 1861 the addition de Galeana was added in honor of the resistance fighter Hermenegildo Galeana , in 1874 de Comonfort in memory of General Ignacio Comonfort and in 1978 the Municipio finally de Baz in memory of the politician Gustavo Baz Prada . The modern, official name of the city is simply Tlalnepantla .
