Cyriel Dessers (born December 8, 1994 in Tongern ) is a Nigerian - Belgian football player . The striker is under contract with Heracles Almelo in the Netherlands .
Career
society
Dessers grew up in Vechmaal near Heers in the province of Limburg and was trained at SK Tongeren, VV St. Truiden and Oud-Heverlee Löwen ; as a seven-year-old he had previously failed in a trial training session at his favorite club, KRC Genk . During the winter break of the 2013/14 season, the 19-year-old moved up to the professional squad Leuvens and prevailed with the club in the relegation relegation against the RAEC Mons .
He was then sold to league competitor Sporting Lokeren for the 2014/15 season . With Sporting Dessers reached the group stage of the Europa League , where they were eliminated in third place. He played 40 competitive games in two years, but only scored seven times and prepared two more goals.
In the second Dutch league , the Belgian was able to assert himself right away at NAC Breda after his move in summer 2016 . As a regular player, the attacker scored 29 goals and thirteen assists in 40 competitive games for the club and thus played a significant role in the promotion to the Eredivisie .
The future first division opponent FC Utrecht signed the striker before the start of the season and provided him with a working paper valid until June 2020. With Utrecht Dessers failed in the Europa League qualification at Zenit St. Petersburg . At the end of the season he was fifth with the team and scored nine goals in 32 league games. At the beginning of the second half of the 2018/19 season, the attacker tore his knee ligament and was only able to return to the team shortly before the end of the season.
In the summer of 2019 there was another change within the Eredivisie, this time to Heracles Almelo , who was seventh from the previous year , with whom Dessers received a three-year contract. The season, which ended prematurely after the 26th matchday due to the COVID-19 pandemic , Heracles finished in eighth place. Dessers scored 15 goals each season with Steven Berghuis , but the league association did not choose a top scorer. The striker then returned to the Belgian premier league and signed a four-year contract with his "heart club" KRC Genk.
National team
National coach Gernot Rohr nominated the attacker in early March 2020 qualifying game of Nigeria's A-selection for the Africa Cup 2021 against Sierra Leone . The game should originally have taken place at the end of the month, but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
