Gerardo Daniel Arteaga Zamora (born September 7, 1998 in Zapopan , Jalisco ) is a Mexican soccer player who has been under contract with the Belgian first division club KRC Genk since July 2020 . The left full-back has been a Mexican international since September 2018 .
Career
society
Arteaga comes from the youth department of Santos Laguna , an association from the city of Torreón . He joined them in 2013 and played there successfully in various junior teams before he was promoted to the first team for the 2016/17 season . On October 2, 2016 (12th matchday of Apertura) he made his debut in the top Mexican division when he was on the starting line-up in the 1-1 draw against Querétaro FC . As a result, he established himself in the starting lineup, but fell out of this again during the 2018 Clausura. He came to 15 missions this season.
In the next season 2017/18 he played 14 league games and commuted between the grandstand and the starting line-up. With his team he won the Clausura 2018. In the following season 2018/19 he made his breakthrough as an important regular player and played 27 league games. On November 11, 2019 (18th matchday of Apertura), he met for the first time for the Guerreros in a 3-1 home win against CD Cruz Azul . In this 2019/20 season , he played 28 league games.
On July 27, 2020 Arteaga moved to the Belgian first division club KRC Genk , where he signed a five-year contract.
National team
From the end of May to the beginning of June 2018, Gerardo Arteaga played five games for the Mexican U21 national team at the tournament in Toulon .
On September 12, 2018 Arteaga made his A-team debut in a 1-0 defeat in a friendly international match against the United States .
