George de Jong (* 1953 in Almelo , Netherlands ) is a former Dutch volleyball player , coach and today's sport functional .

Life

Since 1975, de Jong played for Abiant Lycurgus Groningen , and he was also active 35 times in the national team .

In 1976 de Jong finished his training at the Academy of Physical Education in Groningen . In 1988 he completed his Masters of Sports Management in Mobile in the United States . In addition, George de Jong completed several coaching courses.

In 1982 he moved to Switzerland, where he worked as a sports manager and volleyball coach. From 1983 to 1989 de Jong worked at the Leysin American School in Leysin . With the VBC Leysin he was six times Swiss champion and cup winner from 1984 to 1991.

In 1989 George de Jong filled the post of technical director of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball , from which he resigned in 1994 because his relationship with the FIVB President, Dr. Rubén Acosta, was difficult. Therefore he moved back with his family to Doetinchem in his Dutch homeland. There de Jong became director of the Royal Netherlands Equestrian Federation (KNHS) and member of the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI).

Since September 2008 de Jong has been the director of InnoSportNL. He is also a member of the supervisory board of the football club VBV De Graafschap Doetinchem .

Private

He is married to the former national volleyball player Loekie Raterink , who has played more than 90 times, and is the father of the soccer players Siem (* 1989) and Luuk de Jong (* 1990).
