Beginnings
Ben Chilwell was born in Milton Keynes to an Englishwoman and a New Zealander who immigrated in 1990 and attended the Redborne Upper School and Community College in Ampthill . He gained his first footballing experience as a teenager with the juniors of the Woburn Lions , Bletchley Youth and Rushden & Diamonds , before joining the Leicester City Academy in 2010 . In the 2014/15 season he already played regularly in the U23 team, which played in Premier League 2. At the end of that season he was named Leicester's Academy Player of the Year .
Chilwell completed the preparation for the next season 2015/16 with the professional team Leicester, under the direction of Claudio Ranieri . The final leap into the first team was denied to him for the time being and he started the season with the reserve. On October 27, 2015, he finally made his debut in the 5-6 league cup defeat after the penalty shoot-out against Hull City for the first team and completed the entire 120 minutes of play.
On loan to Huddersfield Town
He did not come to further employment in the next few weeks and was therefore loaned to the second division club Huddersfield Town on November 19 . There he made his debut nine days later (18th matchday) in the 2-0 defeat against Middlesbrough FC . Chilwell established himself as an important regular player for the Terriers and was ordered back to Leicester on January 3, 2016 after eight league games.
Breakthrough at Leicester City
Less than two weeks later, he signed a new five and a half year contract with the Foxes . However, Chilwell was again not considered in any league game and was the substitute for the experienced Christian Fuchs , who was an undisputed regular player in the sensational championship season. He was used in the second half of the season in only two FA Cup games .
After the summer of 2016 was accompanied by media speculation about a move to Liverpool , Chilwell extended his working paper at Leicester City by five years on July 28, 2016. In the first few months of this 2016/17 season he was prevented from playing regularly due to an ankle injury, but finally made his Premier League debut on December 26, 2016 (18th matchday) . Leicester could not repeat the excellent pre-season and found itself in a relegation battle after the turn of the year. In February 2017 they separated from master coach Ranieri and his successor Craig Shakespeare led the team back into the middle of the table. He used Chilwell again and again as a substitute. On May 18, 2017 (34th matchday), he scored his first goal for the first team in a 6-1 home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur . Leicester finished the season in 12th place in the table and Chilwell played 12 league games in this.
In the following season 2017/18 Chilwell established himself under Shakespeare's successor Claude Puel as a regular in left full defense. On January 13, 2018 (23rd matchday), Ben Chilwell followed in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea for the first time in his professional career when he received two yellow cards within five minutes. He completed 24 league games this season, in which he prepared two goals.
Under Puel, he established himself as an undisputed regular player in the following season 2018/19 and was praised by experts in particular for his adaptation to the role of the modern full-back. On October 20, 2018, he signed a new five and a half year contract with Leicester City. His status as a regular player, he also retained his successor Brendan Rodgers and finished the season with 36 league appearances, in which he assisted five goals.
On October 25, 2019 (matchday 10), Chilwell scored another goal for Leicester City after more than two and a half years and prepared an additional two goals in the historic 9-0 away win against Southampton FC . This 2019/20 season he scored three goals and as many assists in 27 league appearances.
Chelsea FC
For the 2020/21 season, Chilwell moved to Chelsea , with whom he signed a contract until June 30, 2025.
National team
In February and March 2014, Ben Chilwell played three friendly internationals for the England U18 national team . He then played six times for the U19 between September 2014 and May 2015 . For the U20 , he completed three test matches in autumn 2015, in which he scored a goal.
In May 2016 he played for the U21 for the first time . With this selection he took part in the 2017 European Under-21 Championship in Poland in June 2017 . There he started in all three group games and rose to the semi-finals with the Three Lions as group first. In the 5-6 defeat after the penalty shoot-out against Germany , he was on the field for the full distance of the game and successfully used his penalty. He was on the pitch for the U21s until September 2018 and then exceeded the age limit after 10 international matches.
On 11 September 2018 Chilwell debuted at the 1: 0 win over Switzerland in Leicester King Power Stadium for the senior national team , as he, after 79 minutes for Danny Rose came off the bench. This made him the first English player after Paul Scholes in 1997 to make his debut in his club's stadium. On November 14, 2019, he prepared the first three goals in a 7-0 home win against Montenegro in qualifying for the 2021 European Championship .
