Lewis Baker began his career at Luton Town before moving to Chelsea FC's youth department in 2005 . He made his Academy debut as a schoolboy during the 2010-11 season. He scored his first goal against the Milton Keynes Dons in March 2011. In the 2011/12 season Baker played on the central midfield position or outside and often acted as a playmaker . He scored seven goals in the second half of the year and was a driving force behind the 2011/12 FA Youth Cup win . The coach of the reserves team , Dermot Drummy , noticed the midfielder and Baker brought him to the U21s for the 2012/13 season; here too, Baker was the team captain. Chelsea reached the final in both the FA Youth Cup and the NextGen Series . Overall, Baker scored twice as many goals as the previous season.

The Englishman started the 2013/14 season just as well with several hits and assists . In addition, his goal against Arsenal was voted Chelsea FC Goal of the Season in April .

Despite being promoted to the first-team squad, Baker hardly got any working hours before Christmas. The 2015/16 season spent Lewis Baker together with some other young players in Chelsea on loan in the Dutch Eredivisie at Vitesse Arnhem on loan; the loan contract was extended for the following season . He came for Vitesse as a regular player on 73 compulsory games, in which he was able to score 20 goals and prepare eleven more. He failed with the club at the beginning of his loan at Southampton FC in qualifying for the Europa League , but was able to win the Dutch Cup with him before returning home . In addition, he was the top scorer of the competition with five goals.

He spent the following two years again in the English second division and was active as a loan player for Middlesbrough FC as well as Leeds United and Reading FC . Baker just kept the class with Reading.
