Gustavo Henrique Vernes (born March 24, 1993 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian soccer player. He has been under contract with FC Santos in his home country since 2012 and is usually used in central defense.

Career

In the 2012 season he was promoted to the first team of FC Santos . On June 17, 2012 he made his debut in the Série A against Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and coach Muricy Ramalho used him in central defense for the entire 90 minutes. He scored his first goal in Santos on October 27, 2013 in the game against Corinthians São Paulo . In the 62nd minute he scored the 1-1 equalizer and thus the final score. This remained his only use in the season. Gustavo Henrique already developed into a regular player in the 2013 season. In the championship he played 24 of 38 possible appearances (two goals). There were also games in the Copa do Brasil 2013 and in the youth division. On February 23, 2014, he suffered an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee in the away game in the national championship against São Paulo FC . He returned to the squad in October, but did not make any appearances. In 2015 Pedro celebrated his first title with Santos with the São Paulo state championship . The title was defended in 2016. On the 27th matchday of the 2016 championship , September 24th, Gustavo Henrique suffered another injury, this time on his left knee. He didn't return until almost a year later. On August 14, 2017, the 20th matchday of the Série A 2017 , in the meeting against Fluminense Rio de Janeiro back. After he didn't play on the 21st and 22nd matchdays. He played at home against Corinthians São Paulo on September 23rd, 10th, and suffered an injury to the medial collateral ligament in the 25th minute. That ended the 2017 season for him. In 2018 Gustavo Henrique was able to re-establish himself in the team and so he made his first appearances at the international club level with Santos that year. In the group stage of the Copa Libertadores 2018 on April 5, 2018, Santos met Estudiantes de La Plata away from home . In the game, Gustavo Henrique came on for Renato in the 90th minute . In the round of 16 against CA Independiente he was allowed to compete for the full season.

At the beginning of January 2020 the change from Gustavo Henrique to the reigning champion Flamengo Rio de Janeiro was announced. The contract had a term of four years. He made his first appearance for Flamengo in the national championship in Rio de Janeiro on February 3, 2020 against Resende FC .
