Diego Alves Carreira (born June 24, 1985 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian soccer goalkeeper who plays in the Brazilian first division for Flamengo Rio de Janeiro .

Career

Diego Alves started his career as a professional footballer in 2004 with his youth club Atlético Mineiro . At the age of 19 he already made his debut in the goal of the first division club. After three seasons in which he could indicate his talent in Brazil, Diego Alves was signed by the Spanish first division promoted UD Almería .

Originally, Diego Alves was only supposed to act as a substitute goalkeeper behind David Cobeño , who was on loan from Sevilla FC , but since he kept making headlines with gross mistakes, the young Brazilian got the chance to prove his skills in the Primera División and did an excellent job as the first Brazilian goalkeeper in Spanish professional football.

For the 2011/12 season, Diego Alves moved to Valencia CF , where he signed a one-year contract.

In 2017 he moved to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . There he made his debut in a 1-1 draw against Corinthians SP on July 30, 2017. With the club he won on November 23, 2019 2019 the Copa Libertadores . One day later, the preliminary decision in favor of Flamengo was made in the 2019 Brazilian championship and Diego Alves was also able to celebrate this title.

National team

For the 2008 Summer Olympics , Alves was appointed to the squad of a Brazilian national team for the first time. After missing the Copa América 2015 due to a knee injury, he took part in the Copa América Centenario 2016 with the Brazilian national soccer team, but remained without a mission.
