David Špiler (born January 2, 1983 in Kranj , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian handball player . He is 1.89 m tall.
Špiler, who plays for Die Eulen Ludwigshafen and plays for the Slovenian national team (shirt number 13), is mostly used in the center of the back .
In his youth, David Špiler still played at RK Tržič near his hometown, before later making his debut for RK Slovenj Gradec in the Slovenian first division. With his club, however, he never managed to get past series champion RK Celje . Špiler was hired by him in 2006; In 2007 he won the championship and cup double. In 2010 he moved to Croatia to RK Zagreb , with whom he won the championship in 2011, 2012 and 2013. In 2013 he signed a contract with the Belarusian club from Brest, with which he won the championship and the Belarusian Cup in 2014 and 2015.
From December 2018 he played in the handball Bundesliga for the owls. From the start of the 2019/20 season, he played for the Israeli club Hapoel Ashdod . For family and professional reasons, however, he asked for a contract to be terminated. On October 8, 2019, he joined the third division TV Plochingen.
David Špiler has made 134 international appearances for the Slovenian national team. With Slovenia he took part in the 2007 World Cup in Germany, but only finished 10th; at the European Championships in Norway in 2008 , he retired with his country after the main round. At the European Championships in 2012 he reached 6th place.
