Thiago Maia Alencar (born March 23, 1997 in Boa Vista , Roraima ) is a Brazilian football player . The midfielder is currently on loan from Ligue 1 club OSC Lille to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . The former junior international won the gold medal with the Brazilian Olympic team at the 2016 Games .

Career

Maia started his career in his hometown Boa Vista with the amateur club Extremo Norte . In 2010 he moved to the youth club of AD São Caetano before moving on to FC Santos a year later . On October 25, 2014 Maia made his debut for the first team of Santos at 1: 1 draw against Chapecoense in the Series A . In the 2015 season , Maia was promoted to regular strength due to injuries. He scored his first goal for Santos on August 22, 2015 in a 5-2 home win against Avaí FC . On October 13th, he extended his contract until 2019. Due to his strong performance, he was associated with various top clubs in the winter of 2017, including Chelsea FC and Juventus Turin and Paris Saint-Germain . Maia stayed with Santos for the time being.

On July 15, 2017, Thiago Maia moved to the French first division club OSC Lille . For the services of the midfielder , the Dogues transferred a transfer fee of 14 million euros to FC Santos. In his first season he played 37 competitive games for his new employer, in which he scored a goal.

Maia was awarded to the Brazilian club Flamengo Rio de Janeiro for 18 months in January 2020 . According to the Lille OSC, a purchase option has been agreed.

Maia took part with the Brazilian U-20 national team in the U-20 South American Football Championship 2015 in Uruguay .

On June 29th, Thiago Maia was appointed to the Brazilian squad, which represented the country at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
