The Primeira Divisão 1938/39 was the fifth season of the top Portuguese division in men's football. It began on January 8, 1939 and ended on April 23, 1939.

After four trial seasons, the Campeão de Portugal (= Portuguese champions) was determined in league mode from this season . The Campeonato de Portugal was restructured into a pure cup competition and renamed Taça de Portugal (= Portuguese Cup).

FC Porto became champions for the second time .
