Engelbert Schramm (* 1954 in Fulda ) is a German biologist and environmental scientist . He is co-founder of the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE) in Frankfurt am Main and was a member of the institute's management between 2014 and 2018.

Life

Schramm studied biology , chemistry and education at the University of Frankfurt . During his studies, he was at various levels ( student council representative biology, student parliament , university Convention) university politically active and was editor and publisher of the student newspaper discus . After the state examination, he worked as a freelance science journalist. From 1984 he worked with Klaus Michael Meyer-Abich ( University of Essen ), then with Gernot Böhme ( TU Darmstadt ) and in the research group Social Ecology , from which the Institute for Social-Ecological Research emerged in 1989. In 1995 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the history of ideas of the ecological cycle at the TU Darmstadt. His main research areas at ISOE are sustainability-oriented resource management, accompanying research and regional sustainability. Until March 2014 he headed the ISOE research focus “Water Infrastructure and Risk Analysis ”. Schramm has published numerous essays and books on environmental research and environmental history (especially the history of drinking water ) and is active as an editor. He has written numerous works together with Thomas Kluge .
