Celso Rafael Ayala Gavilán (born August 20, 1970 in Asunción , Paraguay ) is a former Paraguayan football player (defender).
From 1993 to 2003 Ayala made 85 appearances for his country and scored six goals. This makes him one of the most successful national players in his country. In the 1990s he formed the defensive team with Francisco Arce and Carlos Gamarra and was one of the key players himself. Ayala took part in the 1998 and 2002 World Cup finals .
Ayala experienced his most successful time as a club player in Argentina with the top club River Plate from Buenos Aires .
