The BIKE Transalp is from the bike magazine hosted a mountain bike - stage race for teams of two across the Alps . Single drivers have also been permitted since 2019. The race takes place annually in July.

history

In 1998 the race was held for the first time. Founder Ulrich Stanciu , publisher of bike magazine , led around 250 teams of two from Mittenwald to Riva del Garda . Until 2012, Stanciu was racing director fifteen times, when Marc Schneider took over this role. Since then, the BIKE Transalp has been considered one of the most spectacular mountain bike stage races in the world. In 2014 around 1200 participants started. The participants come from more than 35 different nations.

The BIKE Transalp leads across the Alps in seven day stages. The total distance is about 600 kilometers and 18,000-19,000 meters in altitude. The team ranking is divided into the following categories: Men, Women, Mixed, Masters (in the team a total age of more than 80 years), Grand Masters (in the team a total age of more than 100 years), U23 In the individual ranking there are the categories: Men, Men Masters from 40 years, Men Grand Masters from 50 years, Men Senior Grand Masters from 60 years, women and U-23 rating

The following table lists the starting points for the individual stages in previous years. The starting point of a stage is always identical to the destination of the previous stage. Until 2013, the race extended over eight stages, each starting on a Saturday, since 2014 the race has been reduced to seven stages, the start is on Sundays. In eleven events, Mittenwald was the starting point for the first stage, three times in Füssen and twice in Oberammergau. In 2015 the race started for the first time in Ruhpolding. Until 2016, the start was always in Germany, since then in Tyrol. The destination of the last stage was Riva del Garda almost every year. Exceptions were 2005, where the race ended in Jesolo on the Italian Adriatic Sea , and 2006, where the finish was in the neighboring town of Limone sul Garda . In 2016 and 2018 the race ended 7 km before Riva in Arco, in 2019 the race ended 45 km north of Riva in Molveno on Lake Molveno . The race planned by Nauders in Austria to Riva del Garda in 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
It is driven on public, not cordoned off roads. The participants must therefore adhere to the traffic rules and may z. B. Do not cut curves. They must also bring weatherproof clothing and a first aid kit.

Fair

At each stage, a small exhibition / chill-out area is set up around the start and finish area, in which the drivers receive their first refreshments after reaching the finish. In addition, they can obtain replacement material and accessories as well as a bicycle service from the exhibitors .

Supporting program

The traditional evening pasta party is part of the race . Here, the riders can talk about the daily stage and view pictures and videos of the day. The briefing for the next stage is also held here. The finisher party takes place in the destination of the BIKE Transalp . Each finisher, i.e. H. every driver who has completed all stages within the specified framework is given the finisher jersey .
