Francisco Javier "Chiqui" Arce Rolón (born April 2, 1971 in Paraguarí ) is a former Paraguayan soccer player and soccer coach who was the national coach of the Paraguayan national soccer team until June 2012 .
Career
society
Arce began his career at the Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño , with which he could win the Paraguayan championship three times . From 1994 he played for the Brazilian first division club Gremio Porto Alegre , before moving to league rivals Palmeiras São Paulo in 1998 . With both clubs together he won a total of eleven titles, including the Brazilian championship , twice the national cup and twice the Copa Libertadores .
He then played briefly for the Japanese club Gamba Osaka and ended his professional career with the Paraguayan clubs Club Libertad and Club 12 de Octubre .
National team
Arce played at the World Cup in 1998 and 2002 for the Paraguayan national soccer team , with which he reached the last sixteen. He was known for his shooting technique in free kicks and scored several hits. In his career he appeared 62 times for Paraguay and scored five goals.
Trainer
After his career ended, Arce was coach of the Paraguayan second division club Club Rubio Ñu in 2007 and led him to the championship of the División Intermedia in 2008 , which also meant promotion to the first division .
