Juan Carlos Osorio Arbeláez (born June 8, 1961 in Santa Rosa de Cabal ) is a Colombian soccer coach and former player who mainly played in midfield .
career
Osorio began his active career in the youth division of Anserma Caldas and received his first professional contract with Deportivo Pereira . He then played for SC Internacional and Once Caldas . Due to a serious injury, he had to end his professional career after five years.
In 1990 he went to the United States to study physical gymnastics and human performance. In order to gain practical experience in football , he went to England in 1997 , where he first studied at the University of Liverpool and then worked as an assistant coach at Manchester City .
He received his first contract as head coach in his home country with Millonarios FC , which he was in charge of in the 2006/07 season. He was then committed to the US MLS franchise Chicago Fire and then moved to the New York Red Bulls , with whom he won the 2008 Western Conference of Major League Soccer .
After a turbulent season, Osorio went back to his home country, this time taking over the team from Once Caldas , with whom he won the Colombian football championship in the 2010-II season.
After a short period at Puebla FC in Mexico (2011), he took over Club Atlético Nacional , with which Osorio celebrated his greatest successes to date: three more championship titles, two winners of the Colombian Cup and 2012 winner of the Superliga de Colombia . In addition, Osorio reached with his team the finals of the Copa Sudamericana 2014 , which were lost to the Argentine CA River Plate .
After several months at the Brazilian São Paulo FC , Osorio was signed in October 2015 as the head coach of the Mexican national soccer team . At the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup , his team reached the semi-finals against world champions Germany, but lost them 4-1. In the game for third place against European champions Portugal, who also lost their team 2-1 after extra time, he stood out during extra time with defamatory words and aggressive behavior towards the match officials and was then awarded by FIFA for six competitive games, among others. a. blocked at the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017 .
