For the 1975/76 season he moved to city rivals CR Vasco da Gama , before hiring in 1976/77 at Bonsucesso FC, also based in Rio de Janeiro.

After he had ended his playing career in 1991 in the service of the UNAM Pumas, Ferretti took over the post of head coach at the same club, but had no significant successes in these five years. This changed with his move to Guadalajara , where he won the championship after a year and a year and a half later advanced again to the championship finals. In the summer of 2000 el Tuca Ferretti moved to Monterrey and coached the Tigres , with which he also reached the finals in the winter of 2001. Since 2006 he has been working again for the Pumas de la UNAM. After his third runner-up in the Apertura in 2007, he won his second championship title in Mexico in the Clausura 2009 with the Pumas .

On June 29, 1993 Ricardo Ferretti supervised the Mexican national soccer team in a friendly against Costa Rica , which was won 2-0.
