biography

society

Velarde began his professional career in 1960 in the service of Club Necaxa and moved to Club Universidad Nacional in 1965 . Because he was either “late” or “left early”, he could never win a title. Before he started his active career at Necaxa in 1960/61, Necaxa won the Copa México in the 1959/60 season . Necaxa won the same title in the first season (1965/66) after joining the Pumas. There he ended his active career in the 1973/74 season; and the university club promptly won the Copa México the following season.

National team

Velarde made his debut in the Mexican national team on November 5, 1969 in a game against Belgium (1-0), after he had already been in the Mexican World Cup squad in 1962 , but was not used there.

Velarde was also part of the Mexican World Cup squad at the 1970 World Cup, which was held in his own country, and played in both the first and last game of the Mexicans: in the opening game against the Soviet Union (0-0) he played up to the 67th minute and in In the quarterfinals against Italy (1: 4) he replaced Javier Valdivia after 60 minutes.

He scored his first international goal on his second appearance on November 11, 1969 against Norway (4-0), before he scored his only "double" for "el Tri" on October 13, 1971 against Bermuda (also 4-0). His last international match was on January 26, 1972 in a 2-0 win over Chile.
