biography

Efraín Flores began his coaching career in the 1980s at Club Jalisco and then moved to Club Atlas , where he initially looked after the reserve teams playing in the Tercera División and later in the Segunda División . For the first time in the 1994/95 season he was temporarily used as interim coach of the first team. After the departure of the Argentine coach Eduardo Solari at the end of the 1995/96 season, he first got a contract for a first division team and looked after CF Atlas in the 1996/97 season in the Primera División . After a fairly balanced Apertura in 1996, the Clausura in 1997 was quite modest, which led to his replacement after nine match days. But he remained in the coaching staff, coached reserve teams again and was appointed head coach of the first division team of Atlas for the Torneo Invierno 2001 . For the subsequent Torneo Verano 2002 he moved to León , but could not prevent the traditional club from relegating.

After 14 years in the service of Club Atlas, interrupted only by his six-month coaching period in León, he signed a contract with its city rival Chivas Guadalajara, of all places, as the sporting director for the youth division of the three clubs of President Jorge Vergara Madrígal : CD Guadalajara , Chivas USA and Deportivo Saprissa . After José Manuel de la Torre left in September 2007, he was appointed head coach of the CD Guadalajara. He held this job until March 2009, when he was reassigned to the post of sporting director for the youth division.

In recognition of his previous achievements for the Club Guadalajara, Flores was appointed sporting vice-president of the club in June 2009.

After Javier Aguirre's resignation on June 30, 2010, Flores and Enrique Meza served as interim coach for the Mexican national team until José Manuel de la Torre, a new national coach, was appointed on October 19, 2010 .
