Life

Jorge Vergara first worked as a mechanic, then as a text translator and then as a car salesman until he became the deputy director of a small company called Casolar . When it went bankrupt in 1981 as part of the Mexican financial crisis, he tried his hand at taco sales. Then he opened an Italian restaurant.

However, because all of these businesses did not yield the expected income, he finally went to the USA , where he hired as a salesman for Herbalife ; a company that specializes in nutritional supplements. In 1991 he created his own company called Omnitrition de México , which is now known as Omnilife for a short time .

Under the Omnilife Group , a group of different companies has meanwhile been formed, which is dedicated to much more than just the sale of dietary supplements. The activities of the companies included in this group range from financial consultancy to biotechnological research and from the aircraft industry to the music and film business.

The entry into the football business

In November 2002, Vergara acquired the Club Deportivo Guadalajara, which at that time was in a financially troubled position and was therefore relatively cheap to have. Four months later he similarly acquired Deportivo Saprissa and in 2005 used the inclusion of new teams in Major League Soccer (MLS) to found Chivas USA as a US offshoot of Mexico-based Club Deportivo "Chivas" Guadalajara. In June 2007, Vergara also tried to gain a foothold in Spain and seriously tried to take over FC Málaga . After this project had failed, he traveled to the Chinese city of Hefei to buy a club there that was named Chivas Hefei and played in the second division.
