Gustavo Vargas (born January 24, 1955 in La Piedad , Michoacan ) is a Mexican football coach and former player on the position of defender .

Life

Vargas first played in Mexico's Primera División at the age of 23 when he was under contract between 1978 and 1983 at Club Universidad Nacional , with whom he won the Mexican Football Championship and the Copa Interamericana in 1981 . In 1983 he moved to city rivals Cruz Azul and later he was still at that time also in the capital -based club Atlante contracted before in his active career in the 1988/89 season Tigres de la UANL who concluded.

Trainer

In the 1990s, Vargas was the head coach of CD Irapuato and was the interim coach of the Mexican national team in the games against Hong Kong (0-0) and Egypt (3-0) at the Carlsberg Cup, which was held in China in February 1999 .

In Apertura 2002 Vargas coached the Puebla FC team for the first eight game days and was dismissed with a record of just one win, three draws and four defeats.

Since then, Vargas has worked as an assistant coach for various clubs and in May 2012 he was hired as assistant to José Luis Trejo at San Luis FC .
