Eduardo Berizzo (born November 13, 1969 in Cruz Alta ) is a former Argentine soccer player who was in midfield at the beginning of his career and later in defense . After his active career, Berizzo began to work as a football coach.

Berizzo began his professional career at Club Atlético Newell's Old Boys , with which he was under contract from 1988 to 1993 and with whom he won the Argentine football championship in 1991 and reached the Copa Libertadores finals in the following season , which were on penalties against the Brazilian representative São Paulo FC were lost.
In 1993 he moved to the Mexican league , where he played for Atlas Guadalajara for three years . In 1996 he returned to Argentina and was under contract with record champions River Plate , with whom he won several championship titles.
In 1999 he was signed by Olympique Marseille , but returned to River Plate after half a year. In 2001 he moved to the Spanish league , where he played for Celta Vigo from 2001 to 2005 and then ended his active career in the 2005/06 season at FC Cádiz .
Trainer
After his active career, Berizzo began working as a football coach and initially worked as an assistant coach for the Chilean national football team from August 2007 to November 2010 . He then worked for a few months as head coach at Estudiantes de La Plata and then for two and a half years at CD O'Higgins . In the summer of 2014 he returned to his former club Celta Vigo , which he is currently in charge of (November 2016).
For the 2017/18 season he took over as coach from Jorge Sampaoli at Sevilla FC. Berizzo led the team as second in the group behind Liverpool FC in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League . He was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had an operation in late November 2017, and returned to the Seville coaching bench in mid-December but was fired on December 22nd after losing the following two games.
For the 2018/19 season Berizzo became the coach of Athletic Bilbao . On December 4, 2018, he was dismissed after a 3-0 loss to UD Levante and 18th place in the league.
He has been the coach of the Paraguayan national soccer team since February 2019 .
