The FK Metalurh Donetsk ( Ukrainian ФК Металург Донецьк , Russian Металлург Донецк , Metallurg Donetsk ) was a Ukrainian football club from Donetsk . His first team played since the 1997/98 season in the Ukrainian Premjer-Liha , the highest Ukrainian league.

history

The association was founded in 1996. The predecessor was the club FK Antrazit Kirovsk (from Kirovsk in the Luhansk Oblast ), which relegated to the second division ( Druha Liha ) in the first Ukrainian football season 1992/93 . After relegation, the club moved to Shakhtarsk and was now called FK Medita Shakhtarsk . In 1996 the name was changed to Metalurh Donetsk . 1997 also succeeded the promotion to the Premjer-Liha , where the team was able to establish itself in the following years and already took third place several times at the end of the season. This was achieved for the first time in the 2001/02 season and then in 2002/03 and 2004/05 . With this success, Metalurh Donetsk also took part in the UEFA Cup five times , but failed each time in the first round.

Two Metalurh players have so far been Premjer-Liha top scorers; these were Sergiy Shishchenko (2001/02) and Giorgi Demetradze (2003/04). In addition, the team reached the cup final of the 2009/10 season, where Metalurh Donetsk was defeated by Tawrija Simferopol's team only after extra time with 2: 3.

Before the start of the 2015/16 Premjer-Liha season , the club announced its bankruptcy and expressed a desire to unite with the Stal Dniprodzerzhynsk .
