Karlen Mkrtchjan ( Armenian Կառլեն Մկրտչյան , English Karlen Mkrtchyan , Ukrainian Карлен Вардкесович Мкртчян Karlen Wardkessowytsch Mkrtchjan ; born November 25, 1988 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Armenian football player .

Karlen Mkrtchjan began his career in the youth of FC Pyunik Yerevan . At the capital club, which is named after the mythical Phoenix bird , the defensive midfielder made his debut in the Armenian Championship at the age of 18. With Pyunik Yerevan, Mkrtchjan won the championship and the cup several times , in 2009 even the triple with an additional victory in the Supercup. In March 2011 Mkrtchjan moved to Metalurh Donetsk in Ukraine for free, where he signed for three seasons. The Metalurh team has two more players from Armenia under contract in the 2011/12 season ; including the naturalized Brazilian Marcos Pizzelli and Geworg Ghasarjan , who moved to Donetsk together.
On August 30, 2013 Mkrtchyan moved to the Russian first division club Anzhi Makhachkala . In 2015 he played for Tobol Qostanai in the Kazakh premier league . He then went back to Anzhi Makhachkala for two seasons and since 2107 he has been playing for FC Pyunik Yerevan again .

Karlen Mkrtchjan has played for the Armenian national soccer team since 2008 , after having played in the U-21 in his country.
