Sarkis Howsepjan ( Armenian Սարգիս Հովսեփյան , in scientific transliteration Sargis Hovsepyan ; born November 2, 1972 in Yerevan ) is a former Armenian football player and current national record player in his country. After his active career, he worked as a cotrainer at FC Pyunik Yerevan , the last club of his playing career.

Career

Howsepjan began his career with smaller Armenian clubs. With Homenetmen Yerevan he played in the highest Armenian league and was able to win the Armenian championship there for the first time. In the 1995/1996 season he was able to win this title again with the club from Yerevan, which had since been renamed Pyunik.

After winning the second title, he moved to Russia to Zenit Saint Petersburg in 1998 , where he played in the Russian Premier League and won the Russian Cup in the 1998/1999 season. In 2003 he moved to Torpedo-Metallurg Moscow .

In 2004 he returned to Armenia after seven years in Russia and has since played for Pyunik again. On September 20, 2012, he ended his career with this club.

National team

Howsepjan made his first international game on October 14, 1992 against the Republic of Moldova , in the first official international game of Armenia after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. After that, however, he was not reappointed until 1994. Since 1994 he has been an undisputed regular in the Armenian team. He made his 100th international match on October 11, 2008 in World Cup qualification against Belgium. He made his last international match on November 14, 2012 against Lithuania . He is currently Armenia's record international player with 131 appearances.
