Vasileios Pliatsikas ( Greek Βασίλειος Πλιάτσικας [ vaˈsiliɔs ˈplʲatsikas ]; born April 14, 1988 in Athens ) is a Greek football player . He has been playing for Panionios Athens since January 2017 .
Career
societies
Pliatsikas started his career at FC Chaidari , a club from a suburb of Athens. In the 2004/05 season he was part of the first team there. For the 2005/06 season he moved to AEK Athens . With AEK he took part in the 2005/06 and 2007/08 seasons in the UEFA Cup and in the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League . In the summer of 2009 he moved from Athens to FC Schalke 04. He signed a four-year contract with FC Schalke 04. Pliatsikas should replace the injured Jermaine Jones at Schalke . The defensive midfielder was recommended to FC Schalke 04 by Otto Rehhagel .
After he could not prevail on Schalke, Pliatsikas was loaned to MSV Duisburg in the 2011/12 season. On the first day of the game he received the yellow-red card, the same fate befell him on the fifth day of the game. Pliatsikas scored his first goal for MSV Duisburg on October 15, 2011 against FC Ingolstadt 04 . In the summer of 2012 he returned to FC Schalke 04, where he was exclusively part of the squad of the second team playing in the Regionalliga West in the 2012/13 season . After initially remaining without a club for half a year in the 2013/14 season, he joined the Ukrainian first division club Metalurh Donetsk in February 2014 . In summer 2014 he moved to Astra Giurgiu in Romania. He returned to Ukraine after just six months. After six months without a club, he joined the Slovak club ŠK Slovan Bratislava in January 2016 . In January 2017, he terminated his contract and shortly afterwards joined Panionios Athens .
National team
Pliatsikas took part with the Greek U19 national team in the U-19 European Football Championship 2007 and reached the final there, which was lost to Spain. For the game against Luxembourg on September 6, 2008 Pliatsikas was appointed for the first time by coach Otto Rehhagel in the squad of the Greek national football team, but was not used. His first appearance followed on November 19, 2008 when he was substituted on for the game against Italy .
