Manuel dos Santos Fernandes (born March 28, 1974 in Praia , Cape Verde ) is a former football player with French and Cape Verdean citizenship.

Career

society

Dos Santos' professional career began in 1995 at AS Monaco . After 20 appearances in the first year, he only ran twice in the following season and moved to the Montpellier HSC for the 1997/1998 season . However, he was able to win the French championship in his second season at the Monegasque . At Montpellier he was under contract for three years and played a total of 94 games. In 1999 he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup with them and the team qualified for the UEFA Cup . Dos Santos signed on with Olympique Marseille in the summer of 2000 and remained loyal to the club for four years (98 games, 1 goal). He then played a year and a half at Benfica Lisbon (24 games) before returning to AS Monaco for the winter break of the 2005/2006 season. After his contract expired in the summer of 2007, he moved to Racing Strasbourg on a free transfer . In the summer of 2008 dos Santos announced his retirement.

National team

Dos Santos was a junior player in France's U21s , but he decided to play in the men's area for his country of birth. Dos Santos was a national player for the Cape Verde Islands .
