Artmedia was one of the two clubs that made it into the group stage from the first round of qualifying for the 2005/06 Champions League . The other club was last year's winner, Liverpool FC .

Artmedia caused a big surprise in the group stage when the team caught up 2-0 deficit on September 28, 2005 and beat the 2003/04 Champions League winners of 2003/04, FC Porto , 3-2 at the Estádio do Dragão . won.

In June 2009 the club changed its name from FC Artmedia Petržalka to MFK Petržalka. In 2010 the club was relegated from the Corgoň liga and was renamed FC Petržalka 1898.
